The Scholes Lab welcomes creative and driven students with interests in environmental chemistry and engineering, trace contaminants, and urban water systems. We seek students with a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives, and enthusiastically encourage prospective students from groups underrepresented in STEM to apply.
If you are interested in joining our group, please contact Dr. Scholes by email with the subject line “Scholes Lab Prospective Student (or Postdoc, if applying for a postdoctoral position): [your surname]”. Attach your CV as a PDF. In the body of your email, include answers to the following questions:
(1) What is your educational background (degree(s), major, granting institution) and how does it relate to pursuing graduate studies in environmental engineering/environmental chemistry?
(2) What interests you about the Scholes Lab in particular?
(3) How have your previous experiences prepared you to conduct research in this area? What skills have you developed that apply to this work (e.g., scientific writing, laboratory skills, data analysis and/or computational skills, or other skills you would like to highlight)?
(4) My ability to take on students depends on funding to support student stipends. Students are highly encouraged to apply for external fellowships to support their studies. Are you eligible for external fellowships, such as NSERC Fellowships?
Thanks again for your interest in our research group.
